Zeus’s Pawsitive World: Holiday Travels to New Jersey (Part 1)

Once Upon A Time, I earned another set of flying wings…

Hi Furiends,

I’m back at it, sharing some of my adventures with you. I’ve flown a few more times and haven’t had a chance to share it, but I’m happy to say that now I have 12 sets of wings!! I’m becoming a frequent flyer and I can’t wait to share with you my adventure to the northeast…

Earlier in the month of November, I noticed something out of place. I realized that it looked and smelled familiar, but I couldn’t quite place it. Then, I realized what she was doing. I sniffed again, and YEP, it was my travel carrier that I like. It’s a fun little box on wheels and my mom can also carry me on her back. She thinks she’s sneaky throwing treats and my toys in there, but I know what she’s doing. She’s trying to get me ready to fly again, and I must say, its been almost a year since I’ve been in there. I don’t mind, because I like treats and my toys, so it’s fun to go exploring in there to find the goods.

A few times during the month, she would put me in the carrier and wheel me around the house making these high pitched sounds with her voice. I just tilt my head and give her the “what are you doing mom” look and she just laughs and continues on. Every once in a while, she’ll throw a treat inside and I retreat to sniff it out. Then she says I’m a good boy for behaving in the carrier. She even took me outside in our neighborhood, wheeling me around and embarrassing me in front of my furiends. I guess I can’t blame her for trying to make me feel comfortable inside the small confines of this thing.

After a few weeks of preparation, and lots of treats, it was finally time to fly. She had to work that morning, but when she got home, she took me out for a few walks and then told me it was time to get ready. She gave me some cream cheese and some other snacks before putting me inside the carrier. She called the car to come pick us up. We left the house at 2:30 pm, and about halfway to the place with the metal birds, I heard her talking to grandma about the flight being delayed. I wasn’t sure what that meant, but she seemed annoyed. So, I made sure to give her a reassuring look from inside the carrier. She smiled down at me and told me I was a good boy, and gave me some pets. A little while later, we arrived at the airport and it was time to get checked in for the flight. She got our boarding pass and checked the luggage and then we headed toward security. She took me out of my carrier and held me in her arms. We walked through the thing that scans you and of course, there were no issues. How could there be, have you seen what I look like?!

I realized I started getting sleepy and I wonder if my human gave me something in that cream cheese? Sneaky woman! She put on my cozy sweater and let me out to use the potty and then I went back in my carrier and got settled in. She was at the table eating and relaxing since our flight got delayed. It was now about 5pm, and we still had a few more hours to wait for our flight.

Then she rolled me around the airport for a little bit, and we went to sit at the terminal and started chatting with the lady sitting next to us. A few more peeped runs for me, and then it was finally time to board.

Now, it was 7:30pm and we were finally sitting in the plane, waiting for everyone else to get on and settled in. By this time, I was mostly sleeping and cozy by my mom’s feet. Finally, I heard the roar of the plane engine and the voices over the intercom. Flight time 3 hours.

Then… TAKEOFF!! The time passed quickly while I was in the air and the flight was smooth. I heard the shudder of the wheels coming out in preparation for landing, and my ears started to pop. I knew we were descending and one step closer to grandma’s house!! Finally we landed, and when my mom rudely woke me up from my nap, but moving the carrier, I knew we were getting ready to deplane.

As I rolled out of the plane in style, I could smell the fresh, cold air and new scents I’ve never smelled. My nose tingled with excitement of what I would smell next. My ears perked up as I heard her say my name and tell me that she was waiting for us to be picked up. We grabbed our luggage, and then we rolled out of there.

She took me out of the carrier, and then I made sure to pee everywhere I could to make sure that everyone knew Zeus was here. Finally, we were cozy inside the car and were making our way to grandma’s house.

My mom looked at the time, and by the time we pulled in the driveway, it was midnight! I realized I had been inside my carrier for close to 8 hours! I was ready to stretch my legs, have some food and go to sleep.

Stay tuned for my Thanksgiving in New Jersey (Part 2) to be posted soon.

Paws Out,

Zeus
